Lexington, Kentucky
Lexington is the horse capital of the world and is considered the heart of the Bluegrass Region. It is the second largest city in Kentucky, only smaller than Louisville. Lexington was founded in 1775 in Virginia, before Kentucky was a state. By 1820, Lexington was one of the wealthiest and biggest towns around. It had a very cultured lifestyle. John Wesley Hunt became the first millionaire west of the Alleghany Mountains. Lexington was host to one of the first drug rehab clinics in 1935. The first rehab hospital was also in Lexington, later converted into a federal prison.
Lexington has a very wide cultural base including Ashland: the Henry Clay Estate, and is considered a national historic landmark. Some other points of interest include the Aviations Museum of Kentucky, the Hunt-Morgan House, the Kentucky Theatre, Lexington Cemetery, Martin Castle, Mary Todd Lincoln House, Transylvania University Campus and Rupp Arena.
